On Saturday, November 12th in 1977, “Special Edition” did an episode celebrating the 25th anniversary of MAD Magazine. The first issue of MAD from 1952 was devoid of any presence of Alfred E. Neuman who wouldn’t be adopted as the magazine’s mascot until 1955.
The “Special Edition” promo ad in the NY DAILY NEWS mentions the episode will have “…”Oddfather,” a wild and wonderful take-off of “The Godfather.” I would assume that the “Oddfather” is a rebroadcast of a segment from the 1974 animated MAD TV Special. Here is a new video transfer of an original 16mm film of “The MAD Magazine TV Special” recently posted to YouTube, which will start playing at the “Oddfather” segment:
Since I was unable to find a posted video clip of the MAD episode of Barabra Feldon’s “Special Edition,” instead here’s a great clip from “60 Minutes” covering MAD in 1987.
